Andhra Pradesh
Girl Child Protection Scheme
The Girl Child Protection Scheme is aimed at preventing gender discrimination by empowering and protecting rights of girl children through direct investment from the State Government. It provides a number of incentives to promote the empowerment of the girl child:
- In case of a single girl child she is entitled to receive Rs.1.00 lakh after completion of 20 years of age.
- In case of two girl children, both of them are entitled to receive Rs.30,000/- each, after completion of 20 years age.
- Both “single girl child” and “two girl children” are entitled to receive Rs1,200/- per annum as scholarship from 9th class to 12th class (including ITI course) during their period of study, as a benefit under the scheme.

Bangaru Thalli Scheme
Bangaru Thalli is a welfare scheme for girls launched by Government of Andhra Pradesh. The scheme supports the family of a girl from her birth till her graduation. All the Below Poverty Line white card holders are eligible for the scheme.

Assam
Manjoni Scheme
Under this scheme, Rs. 5000 is deposited by the State Government at the time of the birth of a girl child and the girl would get the matured value of this fixed deposit when she turns 18. In order to be eligible for this scheme, the girl child must be born in a Government hospital and the family should have adopted the two child norm.

Bihar
Mukhyamantri Kanya Suraksha Yojana
Under this scheme the girl child gets financial assistance from her birth till graduation amounting to a total of Rs. 51,000. The funds will be dispersed over a period of time upon attaining a certain age and completion of certain prerequisites:
- At birth: Rs 2000
- Age 1 upon issuance of Aadhar card: Rs. 1000
- Age 2: Rs. 2000
- Passing 12th grade: Rs. 10,000
- Graduation: Rs. 25,000
These benefits are available to only 2 girls in a family and residents of Bihar. Girls coming from financially weaker backgrounds will be given priority. To apply to this scheme, the parents can visit the anganwadi centres, fill the application form and submit the necessary documents to the anganwadi workers.
Goa
MAMTA scheme for girl child
With a view of improving the female sex ratio of the State, under this scheme an amount of Rs. 10000/- will be paid to all the mothers who deliver a girl child (maximum 02 deliveries) in a registered medical institution. Eligible mothers can apply to the Child Development Project Officer through the local Anganwadi Centre with a copy of the Birth Certificate within 45 days from delivering the child. The benefits are directly credited to the declared Bank Account.

Gujarat
Kunwarbai Nu Mameru Yojana
The Ministry of Women and Child Development of Gujarat has launched a scheme called Kunwarbai Nu Mameru Yojana that offers financial assistance of Rs. 10,000 to only one girl of a family. However, this scheme has been started specifically for the welfare of Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Castes girls. Only those with an annual income limit of Rs. 1,20,000 (Rural areas) and Rs.1,50,000 (Urban areas) are eligible for this scheme.

Haryana
Laldi Scheme
The Ladli Scheme of Haryana is meant to provide benefits to biological parents who have no son (biological or adopted) but only daughters. This scheme is only available to those who are either domicile of Haryana or working for the State government, whose gross annual income of the family does not exceed Rs. 2,00,000.
The pattern of this scheme is similar to the Old Age Samman Allowance scheme for the families having only girl children. The enrolment of families under this scheme commences from the 45th birthday of the mother or the father whoever is older of the two till their 60th birthday i.e. for 15 years (Thereafter they will be eligible for Old Age Samman Allowance). The rate of allowance provided is Rs. 1,800 per month.

Himachal Pradesh
Indira Gandhi Balika Suraksha Yojana
Under this scheme, the families adopting family planning methods after the birth of the first female child will be given a sum of Rs. 25,000 and those adopting family planning methods after the birth of two female children will be given a cash of Rs. 20,000.
The health department of the Himachal Pradesh government also provides free of cost transportation either through taxi or ambulance for carrying pregnant women to the nearest hospital for delivery.
Beti Hai Anmol Yojana
Under this scheme, for all the families lying below the poverty line in Himachal and having one or two girls, a sum of Rs. 5100 will be deposited in the name of girls at the time of their birth. Moreover, to help in the education of such girls, scholarships ranging from Rs. 300 to Rs. 1500 will be given to them from class I to class XII.

Jammu and Kashmir
Ladli Beti Scheme
Under this scheme, financial assistance of Rs. 1000 per month is made by the Government from the birth of the girl child / account opening date for the next 14 years. For this, zero balance accounts have already been opened in the Jammu and Kashmir Bank in respective localities. This is only applicable to girls born on or after 1st April 2015, and whose parental income is less than Rs. 75,000 per annum.

Jharkhand
Ladli Lakshmi Yojana
Under this scheme, the State government offers a girl child from families below poverty line benefits of Rs. 1,80,600. An amount of Rs. 6,000 will be deposited annually into the girls account till she turns 5 years old. Further amounts will be added upon completion of higher education, marriage and so on, along with monthly allowances of Rs. 200 for girl students.
Karnataka
Karnataka Bhagyashree Scheme
With the idea of raising the status of girl children and promoting their birth in the country, the Karnataka government has come up with the Karnataka Bhagyashree Scheme. The scheme provides financial assistance to the girl child in families that lie below the poverty line through her mother or father who is subject to the fulfilment of certain conditions.
The government of Karnataka offers the following benefits to the eligible candidates of this scheme-
- The girl child gets a health insurance cover of upto Rs. 25,000 per month
- The child gets an annual scholarship of Rs. 300 to Rs. 1,000, depending upon her age upto 10th standard
- The parents get Rs. 1 lakh in case of accident and Rs. 42,500 in case of natural death of the girl child.
- On completing 18 years of age, the parents of the girl child would be paid Rs. 34,751.
Along with this, there are certain interim payments such as annual scholarships and insurance benefits that the beneficiary can avail upon continued fulfillment of the eligibility criteria. The grant of such facilities promotes the birth of girl children in economically weaker families and raises their status within the society.
Kerala
Education Assistance to Women Headed Families
The scheme proposes to extend a helping hand to these families by way of providing financial assistance to the education of children by the State government.

Madhya Pradesh
Ladli Lakshmi Yojana
The State government offers benefits to the parents who had adopted family planning after two alive children, are registered in an Anganwadi center and are not income tax payees. Under the scheme, National Savings Certificates worth Rs 6,000 are purchased by the state government in the name of a girl every year after her birth till the amount reaches Rs 30,000. The girl covered under the scheme is given Rs 2,000 on getting admission in class VI, Rs 4,000 on getting admission in class IX and Rs 7,500 on admission in class XI. She is given Rs 200 per month during her studies in class XI and XII. When the girl attains the age of 21 and had not married before 18 years of age, she will be paid the amount in lump sum, which comes to Rs 1,00,000.

Maharashtra
Mazi Kanya Bhagyashree Scheme
The Mazi Kanya Bhagyashree Scheme was introduced in 2016 in Maharashtra as a means of encouraging girls in the area to receive a proper education. This is to help cut down on the number of girls who are not attending school. As a result, it will improve upon the lives of girls around the state if followed in an appropriate fashion. The scheme is especially designed to replace the old Sukanya scheme that was introduced in 2015.
According to this scheme, along with other benefits the state government will transfer rupees 50 thousand in the bank accounts for one girl child. For the families who have two girl children will be given rupees 25 thousand each for both of the children.

Odisha
Kishori Shakti Yojayana
Kishori Shakti Yojana under the ambit of ICDS aims at the empowerment and holistic development of adolescent girls by improving their self perception and creating opportunities for realizing their full potential through Balika Mandals. The scheme primarily aims at breaking the intergenerational life cycle of nutritional & gender disadvantage and providing a supportive environment for self development.

Punjab
Balri Rakshak Yojana
This scheme is being implemented by the Department of Health & Family Welfare for families with up to two girl children and no male child, and is also linked with control of population. Families who do not have taxable income and follow the two child norm will be eligible under this scheme.
The State Government gives monthly incentive of Rs.500/- for one girl child and Rs.700/- for two girl children. The monthly incentive starts from the day the family adopts a family planning operation and the girl child is less than 5 years old.

Kanya Jagriti Jyoti Scheme
This scheme is admissible to girl children born in families below poverty line whose parents have adopted the two child norm. An amount of Rs. 5000 is deposited at the time of birth of girl child with LIC which further gives them the following benefits:
- From 6th year to 12th year of age Rs.1,200 p.a. scholarship
- From 12th year to 18th year of age Rs.2,400 p.a. scholarship
- Lumpsum amount at the age of 18 or on 21 years as decided by the family. This amount is to be finalized by the LIC at the age of 18 or 21 years.
This scheme is being implemented by the Department of Social Security and every year there are about 8000 beneficiaries.
Dhan Lakshmi Scheme
This scheme is being implemented in Sirhind Block of Fatehgarh Sahib district. The government deposits a certain amount with LIC on the birth of a girl child. This scheme is open to all girl children irrespective of the income level and size of the family.
The incentives of this scheme are:
- At the time of birth Rs. 5,000
- Complete immunization Rs.1,250
- Education
- On enrolment in Primary School Rs.1,000
- On passing of class I, II, III, IV & V Rs. 500 each
- On enrolment in Secondary School Rs.1,500
- On passing of class VI,VII & VIII Rs.750 each
- Girl remaining unmarried Rs.1.00 lakh upto 18 years of age

Rajasthan
Mukhyamantri Rajshri Yojana
The project named Mukhyamantri Rajshri Yojana was launched in Rajasthan for helping the girl students in the school by providing them necessary financial support in form of grants. The government will give timely scholarships to the girl students, right from their primary classes up to their higher studies. Those girl children, belonging to this state, who will be born after the 1st of June, 2016 will be eligible for getting the free scholarships under the Mukhyamantri Rajshri Yojana.

Tamil Nadu
Sivagami Ammaiyar Memorial Girl Child Protection Scheme
The Scheme of Social Welfare and Nutritious Meal Programme Department, Sivagami Ammaiyar Memorial Girl Child Protection Scheme, provides financial assistance to girl children from poor families with not more than two girl children and no male child (biological or adopted). To be eligible for this scheme the family income should be below Rs.50,000 per annum. Application should be made before the beneficiary girl child completes 3 years of age. Either of the eligible parents should have also undergone sterilisation within 35 years.

Chief Minister’s Girl Child Protection Scheme
The Chief Minister’s Girl Child Protection Scheme is a pioneering and path-breaking scheme for the welfare of girl children. The Girl Child Protection Scheme is aimed at preventing gender discrimination by empowering and protecting rights of girl Children through direct investment from Government.
The scheme aims to:
- Promote enrollment and retention of the girl child in school and to ensure her education at least up to intermediate level.
- Encourage girls to get married only after the age of 18 years.
- Encourage parents to adopt family planning norm with two girl children.
- Protect the rights of the girl child and provide social and financial empowerment to girl child.
- Strengthen the role of the family in improving the status of the girl child.

Telangana
Bangaru Talli Scheme
The Scheme applies to all girl children born on or after 1st May, 2013 in economically backward households and is limited to first two children in the household. The main objectives of this scheme are to enhance the social status of the girl child, delay age of marriage, ensure registration of birth and immunization and enrolment for better nutrition and improving the girl’s educational standards.
The ‘Bangaru Talli’ scheme seeks to achieve these objectives by cash transfer on fulfilling the conditions of institutional deliveries, birth registration, complete immunization, enrolment in Anganwadis and education upto graduation.

Uttar Pradesh
Bhagyalakshmi Yojana
Under the Bhagyalakshmi Yojana launched on the basis of the Beti Bachao Yojana of the Central Government, a bond of Rs 50,000 is given in the name of the daughter on the birth of a daughter in a below poverty line (BPL) family in Uttar Pradesh.
After registering at the nearest Anganwadi center on the birth of a daughter, one can get the benefit of Bhagyalakshmi scheme. Under this scheme, the amount given in the name of the daughter can be withdrawn only after she is 18 years old, according to which the daughter can be married only after becoming an adult.
This scheme is available only to those families whose annual income is less than Rs. 2,00,000 and who have registered the birth within one year of the child being born.
Chief Minister Kanya Sumangala Scheme
Under this scheme financial assistance is provided to girls on different stages, for instance, upon birth, immunization, admission in Class I, VI, IX, competition of Class X and XII. This scheme is only available to families whose annual income does not exceed Rs 3,00,000 and have only two children.

Uttarakhand
Nanda Guara Devi Kanya Yojana
Gaura Devi Kanya Dhan Yojana was launched by the Uttarakhand government for the economically weaker sections of the state. Under this scheme, financial assistance of Rs 50,000 is to be provided by the government to girls belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Castes and BPL (SC, ST, EWS) category. To get benefits under this scheme, the student must be in the intermediate or 12th standard from a school under a board recognized by the Central Government / State Government located in the state. Only then can she apply under this scheme.

West Bengal
West Bengal Kanyashree Prakalpa
Department of Women Development and Social Welfare, Government of West Bengal (DWD&SW) has designed the Kanyashree Prakalpa – a conditional cash transfer scheme with the aim of improving the status and well being of the girl child in West Bengal by incentivizing schooling of all teenage girls and delaying their marriages until the age of 18, the legal age of marriage.
The scheme has two components:
- Annual Scholarship of Rs. 500/-(Rupees Five hundred only)
- One time Grant of Rs. 25,000/-(Rupees Twenty-five thousand only)
The Annual Scholarship is for unmarried girls aged 13-18 years enrolled in classes VIII-XII in government recognized regular or equivalent open school or equivalent vocational/technical training courses. The One-time Grant is for girls turned 18 at the time of application, enrolled in government recognized regular or open school/college or pursuing vocational/technical training or sports activity or is an inmate of Home registered under J.J. Act 2000.
Both the benefits under the scheme will be granted to girls who belong to families with annual family income not more than Rs. 1,20,000. The bar for family is not applicable if the girl has lost both parents, is physically challenged (40% disability) or is an inmate of J.J. Home.
Given that child marriage has a grossly negative impact on the lives of children, adolescents and young women, this scheme is expected to bring about improved outcomes in terms of their educational status, health (especially facilitate the prevention of infant and maternal mortality) and contribute towards the empowerment of the girls in the State, and bring immeasurable benefits for the larger society as a whole.
